Conspiracy theorist and Glenn Beck may finally be getting what’s coming to him.
Following the bombing at the Boston Marathon last year, Glenn Beck went on a personal crusade to prove that Abdul Rahman Ali Alharbi, a student who was injured in the bombing, was actually an al Qaeda agent who financed the whole attack and recruited the Tsarnaev brothers to carry it out. And now he’s getting sued.
According to Glenn Beck, the 20-year-old Saudi Arabian student was clearly behind the bombing. First, he’s Saudi Arabian. And if that wasn’t enough proof, he was also questioned by police after the attack. It didn’t matter to Glenn Beck that the police cleared him of any wrongdoing or that the FBI had already identified the Tsarnaev brothers as the primary suspects, all that mattered was that a Saudi national was present during a terrorist attack – and that is very suspicious.
The crazed radio host then urged the U.S. government to release information on Alharbi, accusing the Obama administration of engaging in a massive cover-up regarding al Qaeda’s role in the bombings. Beck gave the government three days to come clean about the cover-up. Three days of silence later, he decided to take things into his own hands and expose Alharbi for the terrorist he is.
“Let me send this message very clear,” Beck said. ”We know who this Saudi national is. … We know who this man is and, listen to me carefully, we know he is a very bad, bad, bad man.”
And Beck kept going: “While the media continues to look at what the causes were [behind] these two guys, there are, at this hour, three people involved,” , alleging the U.S. government had “tagged” Alharbi as a “proven terrorist”. (note: the US government did not tag Alharbi as a proven terrorist…)
“You know who the Saudi is?” his viewers. “He’s the money man. He’s the guy who paid for it.”
Well now the so called money man is suing Glenn Beck for defamation. The lawsuit, which was filed Friday in the U.S. District Court in Boston, alleges that:
“Beck repeatedly and falsely identified Mr. Alharbi as an active participant, repeatedly questioned the motives of federal officials in failing to pursue or detain Alharbi and repeatedly and falsely accused Mr. Alharbi of being a criminal who had funded the attacks,”
“Alharbi has received numerous messages, internet postings and other communications based on Beck’s false statements accusing him of being a murderer, child killer and terrorist.”
Sounds about right. The notoriously loud Beck has remained pretty quiet since the lawsuit was filed. Hopefully it will encourage him to tone down his rhetoric… but it
probably definitely won’t.
Rolling Stone Cover: Rock and Roll star or bomb-happy terrorist?
Rolling Stone has released a photo of their August edition with Boston bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev on the cover. Why you ask? Ratings? Bad judgement? Who knows! The cover story reports “how a popular, promising student was failed by his family, fell into radical Islam, and became a monster.” The people of the internet were not pleased. Thousands posted on social media networks calling the cover, which makes Tsarnaev look like a rock star, “tasteless” and “disgusting”. Boston Mayor Tom Menino was equally appalled, saying it “rewards a terrorist with celebrity treatment.” The Rolling Stone cover, Menino added, “is ill-conceived, at best, and reaffirms a terrible message that destruction gains fame for killers and their ‘causes.’”
Programming Note: Reagan is taking off early for the weekend and will be back July 22nd for some fuuuuun times! See you then cats!
Today was the first pubic appearance for Dzhokhar Tsarnaev since the April 19 shootout with police that killed his older brother Tamerlan and ended with him hiding out in a boat.
Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the younger of the Boston bombing brothers appeared in federal court Wednesday and pleaded “not guilty” to 30 charges, including using a weapon of mass destruction – which could carry the death penalty. Really? Not guilty? Perhaps his alibi was that he was out boating all day… The trial is expected to take three or four months. Perhaps longer, depending on how the boating defence pans out.

Notorious Boston mobster James “Whitey” Bulger’s trial kicked off on Wednesday with a prosecutor describing him as a “hands-on killer”.
The “hands-on killer” spent nearly two decades on the run from US authorities after leading Boston’s Winter Hill Gang in the 1980s. Bulger, now 83, is charged with murder in the killings of 19 people as well as running crime schemes and corrupting officials. Bulger, who was arrested in 2011 in Santa Monica, is pleading not guilty.
But the prosecutors aren’t buying it. They say Bulger terrorized South Boston in the 80s and have a 700-page file to prove it.
“It’s a case about organized crime, public corruption and all sorts of illegal activities ranging from extortion to drug dealing to money laundering, to possession of machine guns to murder,” Assistant US Attorney Brian Kelly
“While he started out as just one member of the enterprise, eventually he took control. He became the leader.
“And he was no ordinary leader because he did the dirty work himself. He was a hands-on killer.”
Bulger is also accused of being an informant, providing authorities with tips about a rival gang, the New England Mob and paying off law enforcement officials to protect him and to alert him to impending wiretaps, surveillance efforts and indictments. But Bulger used the old Irish defense. His attorney, J.W Carney, told the court this:
“Number one, James Bulger is of Irish descent,” J.W. Carney said. “And the worst thing an Irish person could consider doing is becoming an informant.”
Case closed. Except the trial is expected to last up to three months – and reveal some juicy details about the mob and FBI corruption.
